How to Choose the Right Size of Baby Clothes

Most babies outgrow their first size within weeks, and a size label is only a guide. These four rules make shopping easier.
Four simple rules
- Go by weight and length, not only age. A big newborn may skip the first size altogether.
- Buy one size up for the coming season. Winter clothes bought in summer should be bigger than what fits today.
- Check the neck and the snaps. Wide necks and snaps between the legs make changes quicker.
- Wash before the first wear. Cotton can shrink a little, so wash once before you decide it is too big.
When in doubt, choose the bigger size: a rolled sleeve is fine, a tight one is not.
